Where can I buy my new, correct bra size?

So, you have learned to measure yourself, and your new bra size was probably a bit of a shock! Especially if you don't have any good bra fitters in your area, (read about signs your fitter sucks here) you will most likely have to buy this new size on the internet. Almost all of the bras sold in an actually good range of sizes are made in the UK, but with the power of the internet, you can still buy them even if you don't live there! Here are the websites I would recommend:

Bravissimo-- I know that I've made it clear I'm not currently a fan of their clothing range, but they started out selling bras and that's still what they do the best! They have a huge range of sizes, very pretty bras, and an easy-to-use website. They just introduced an L cup bra! Oh, and yes, they are in the UK, but shipping to the US has been pretty painless in my experience.

Bare Necessities
Bare Neccesities: Free Shipping over $50, a wide selection, and free exchanges! That means they will pay for you to ship things back if you need to exchange for a different size. You can search by size and they also have helpful articles, and their bra measurement guide actually tells you the correct way to measure!

Freshpair Static Banner Blue Font

Freshpair: You can search by size, they have a huge selection of stuff, and orders over US $40 get free shipping. They have helpful articles on lingerie styles, care, fit, and more (although follow my fitting guide for bras, not theirs!

HerRoom.com Lingerie We Buy for Ourselves
HerRoom: Similar to Freshpair. Free shipping over $70. I especially like that they give you the measurements of each bra (so that if, say, you find that you need a shortish center gore or something, you can compare that measurement to a bra you already own) and I also like that they show you a preview of the bra under various different necklines.

Figleaves.com Great selection, some 'different' things than other places, and even their own brand for full busts!

eBay-- Whatever you want, you can buy it on ebay. Search for your size + "bra" and make sure to turn on worldwide search. Good place to get cheap bras in your size, but not recommended for your first bra since you generally can't return items.

(Some of the above are affiliate links. Some aren't. I am recommending these because they are the websites I recommend, whether or not they want to give me a commission for it!)

  1. I love Figleaves. I think they have the biggest and best selection.

Also, IF you already know a style you like (or are willing to gamble...), Brastop.com is a sort of outlet for large cup sizes. The only thing is, I learned the hard way not to buy styles I didn't have experience with. Because it's an outlet sort of shop, there are a lot of duds. And shipping things back to the UK to return can be pricey. But whenever I've purchased styles I already knew I liked, I've gotten great discounts on bras I love!

  2. I would also recommend Figleaves. If you're interested in them, sign up for the email. There is 20% of och 25% of quite often which is a big moneysaver.

Brastop is quite good too, if you know the size and model. If living close to Brittain it also gives a possibility to try knew models and brands quite cheap. For me, sending back means a lot of money and trouble, but I can spend 11 Euro on a bra that I'm not completly sure on the model.

Also, sometimes it is worth taking a look at Lovebras. They have most of the stuff Brastop has, plus full priced items. However, sometimes they have free shipping there, while brastop hasn't, so, it is usually good to check both.

  3. The third and fourth stores on your list seem to be missing their links.

  4. actually coming here to comment suggesting Figleaves, because I didn't see it linked anywhere. They were really good about the returns/exchanges when my daughters were trying to find bra sizes and styles that would FIT them.

    1. It may feel upsetting right now, but actually I think you are very, very lucky. Starting so early on with proper support will help you avoid a lot of things over time... as someone past 40, I wish I had figured it out at 14... perhaps things would hang a little less now, etc. :) Hopefully your 28F fits well and you feel comfortable. There are so many better choices than their used to be and with resources like this blog I hear about more all the time. Best wishes! It does get easier. Hang in there.

    2. I'm a 28F/DDD as well and 18 I've always bought a 32B before that and while I never considered myself to be flat chested I wouldn't say they were big so I read F size and lold haha but so many of us are wearing the wrong bra sizes we have a warped idea of what these sizes actually look like. I miss just being able to go walk in a store and buy a bra though :/

  9. In New York City, Town Shop and Intimacy are the best places to get a proper bra fitting and buy bras in any size. However, they can be very expensive (hard to find a bra under 50 bucks, and many options exceed 100) so I usually go to find the right size and style of bra, then order them from Figleaves, where they might be cheaper.

Fantasie, Anita, and Prima Donna are a few of my favorite bra brands, and I'm a 30F.

    1. Intimacy is a great, albeit slightly expensive and hard to find store. They very patiently fitted me to my proper size of 32F from the 34DD that I've been uncomfortably wearing for years. If you are ever in the vicinity of one of their stores, I highly recommend stopping in for a fitting.

  10. Thanks so much for your helpful info. I just found out that I am actually a 32DD rather than the 34C I've been incorrectly. The ladies at Nordstrom were most helpful with my fitting and assisting me with finding bras I love!

  11. BraStop is also great. I believe the shipping to the US is 7 GBP, and they have discontinued bras in many sizes that are affordable to me, a college student. There are reviews, too! I love the Curvy Kate bra I just got from them. (:

I put it in perspective, just buying one bra, with shipping, cost me $40 (USD). (:

  12. Hi,
Just found your website and I think it is great. I'm a 32H and have struggled for years trying to find bras that fit.
Have you ever been to http://www.biggerbras.com/?
I have purchased most of my bras from there lately and they are great. They carry everything from a 28 to a 58 in sizes AAA - N.
My only issue with them is a lot of things in the bigger/odd sizes are always out of stock, but you can still order them, it just takes 3 - 4 weeks for shipping.

Keep up the good work, us curvy and thin girls need to help each other out!

  15. Hi,

I live in the Chicago area and found a great store called Tina's Closet in Lisle. Unfortunately she doesn't sell online - you have to go in her store. She's amazing and I am going to buy my bras from that store from now on. She even has a seamstress in the shop if you need a quick bra alteration. Each bra was between $40 and $60. I found her from my physical therapist's recommendation. (I'm a 31FF.) Finding the right bra really helped with my back and neck pain. If you have large breasts, it's really essential you have a professional fitting, and not at a cute underwear store! This blog is great!

  16. Hi, I am 17 and from the UK, I am a 30F and I'm struggling to find a good bra that is not over priced for when I go out. I have some great bra's for in the day, like t-shirt bra's, but I am looking for something moulded with a bit of a push up that is not £30!!! Every site I've been on seems to presume that once you go above a D cup, that no one wants any sort of uplift or padding. Your blog is really helpful and I was just wondering if you had any suggestions? :)

    1. Debenhams website has a Freya 'Sorbet' bra which is a push-up style. I haven't tried it personally, but I have a friend who wears it and her boobs look amazing in it! The Freya Deco bra is also pretty good - not a push-up, but it has a decent amount of padding.

    2. Thanks for your reply!! I haven't tried this one yet, but next time I'm in Debenhams I will definitely find it and hope for the best :)

    4. I am American, but was in London for Uni and wandered into Selfridges to look around, but they helped me find my right size. I know it's a crazy expensive place, and I was just looking, but there bras were actually priced pretty well (at least for the brands that offer 30G)...I would at least go in there and talk to someone, if not to buy. The girl I talked to was also "blessed," and wierd as it sounds I might look for a salesperson with big boobs because they'll know what you're dealing with and might have some tips. If you can get into London I highly suggest Selfridges. Much better than other department stores I tried.

  17. hi its such a happy moment to come across your site, thanks for all the info and suggestions. can i offer a suggestion to you - its about your links, i think it is better to have the links set to open in a new tab, so that your site always stays open on my page. i lost you a few times, and had to click the back button - some folks would not perhaps have the time or patience to do that and you may lose the chance for them to browse your site for longer and read more articles etc.

keep on your with your mission, its such a great service you are offering.

  18. I would also recommend Brastop.com, they are phenomenal with a huge range of bras and despite being a 30E, most of the bras are $17-25 regardless of size!

  19. Check out http://www.breakoutbras.com/ if you haven't yet. I haven't ordered anything from them, but they have a solid selection and their measurement/fit instructions are the same you recommend here on the blog, which would probably make their phone and online help more useful, especially for those in the US where there seem to be fewer options. They also provide some info on each style that a lot of sites don't seem to do (i.e., this bra runs small in the band; this bra is better for women with narrow shoulders; etc.). Plus, shipping is always free to US and Canada.

    1. I am a big fan of breakoutbras! :) I've ordered from them multiple times. The owner, Melissa, makes extremely helpful comments on many of the items sold there. I've often found styles by Fantasie or Freya (my two favorite brands) there that I haven't seen offered by barenecessities or herroom.

  20. Check out www.zulily.com. They do deal a day events catering to mothers with kids but they do occasionally sell brands like Panache and LeMystere, etc. I got a brand new Panache bra for $25.00! You have to be a member (its free) to see the sales and they don't do returns but if you know your size, it can be a great way to save money. I usually go to herroom.com to compare sizing and to get review before I purchase on Zulily.
I check Zulily almost daily just for bras. No I don't work for them or anything and I don't even have kids. I wanted to thank you for trying all these different brands and giving reviews. I know that can be expensive. If you know someone with a Zulily account get them to send you an invite as the sender will get a discount on their next purchase. If you don't just go to the website and sign up.
    Thanks for all you do,
    Kate C.

  21. Brittany, if you need a 24 band, why not order custom 24 bands from Ewa-Michalak? You've ordered custom 26's from there, so why not 24 if they'll make them?

  22. So it seems like this is pretty much impossible to find but does anyone know of a site that sells 30dd PUSH UP bras. Not just plunge or padded or shaping, but like actual push up. My boobs really aren't that big, a lot of people actually think they're pretty small especially for my larger shoulders, but dd is the cut off size for a lot of push up bras. I get amazing cleavage from all the bras at victorias secret, but they don't carry my size. I'm always tempted to buy a 32d there and just have it on the tightest hooks but for how expensive they are, that doesn't last long enough and gives me "armpit fat" :(

    1. The Freya Deco gives quite a bit of lift! The band and cup run large so you might want a 28DD or 28E depending on the shape of your boobs. If you're full on top and/or have a wide root you'd probably want the 28E. If you're full on the bottom and/or have a narrow root you would want a 28DD. You can find the deco just about anywhere. Amazon, Figleaves, Bare Necessities, Nordstrom, Asos etc. The Curvy Kate Showgirl Collection also gives great lift and cleavage!

  23. Bare Necessities doesn't stock many 28 and 30 bands :(. If you wear 32+ in the band it's a good website for you. And it's awesome that shipping and returns are free. I wish they carried more bras in my size :(. I personally love Figleaves. Shipping isn't too expensive considering they are a UK company. Their full retail prices are usually cheaper than other sites which is nice.

  24. i measure at a 26g so i decided to buy a 28f panache tango thinking that it may be a little loose. i finally got it in the mail and the cups fit fantastic but the band was extremely tight and painful; i don't understand. i measured the bra around and it was only 23 inches. was the bra defective? should i consider a larger band? i only measure 26 inches around.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, a couple things. The first is that yes, the Panache Tango is one of the tightest bands on the market, so it's more like a small 26 band to 24 band. 28 bands in other style should be larger.

But also, a 28FF is the general sister size of 28G, so it's entirely possible that the cups are too small, which can make the band feel smaller than it is. You can try putting the bra on backwards to test for this.

It's generally more useful to take band measurements stretched out. The band should be able to stretch to about an inch larger than your ribcage measurement. So you'll want a bra that can stretch to about 27-28".

      Hope that helps!

      Delete
    2. That's why my bras are so tight!!! They stretch to only 24inch and I am 24 inches! (They are a 30 and they have insanely strong elastic. (Debenhams own brand)

    1. I (may be) a 28E as well. Just recently measured myself thanks to this site and don't have any local shops to try, so I have to wait for online bras to arrive. I ordered some from Amazon. I was able to find 2 Panache styles for around $48 USD, which I realize is a bit more than you're looking for. I was only looking at bras that were available via Amazon Prime but I saw many others on Amazon, some as low as $17 USD.

      Delete
    2. Debenhams, they seem to do plus 6/8 as there stechted 30 bands are around 24 inches which is too tight for me even though I am a 24 measured round the rib cage, so to might do well with a 32 or even a 34, seeing as they use very strong elastic!

  31. Hi Lovelys! What an amazing post :-) If you are in Australia and need bigger bras or plus size bras head on over to my new website – http://www.essentiallingerie.com.au for discounted bigger bras, which is very needed in Australia!! THANKS!

  32. I really wish some of these companies would make smaller band sizes. I keep hearing rumors about a size 26, which would be great, but still not enough (my ribcage measures about a sixteenth of an inch below 24). I need a 24DD. I know I'm not an isolated case; my entire family is built with a small frame. Sizes 28 and 30 are rare enough, even in teenie-bopper aisles, but the cups are far too small, cutting off the circulation. If i want to find one with larger cups I have to spend $80 +, but the bras don't fit right, because the smallest band anyone carries is a 28. I'm not spending that much on something that doesn't fit. Size 32 is the best I can find without spending a fortune, and that's six inches too large. By that point the cups don't even matter, because there is no support without the band against me. It's so frustrating!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I suggest buying the cup that fits right with the smallest back available, then removing the back clips by carefully unpicking the thread with nail scissors. Tuck the excess fabric under or cut it off (if too bulky- leaving enough to fold over like the original edge) and re-sew the clips back on. You may get away with just one side if the difference is not too much.. a temporary measure until you find a store that fits you right, good luck! x

  33. I'm wondering if anyone can help me or shed some light. I was fitted properly in Bravissimo this week after 7+ years of having uncomfortable bras. I have breast implants, so everything is at the front, obviously they are also heavy. Every bra was just uncomfortable from about a year after I had them done - I found a couple in a 34D or 32DD which seemed to be ok for a while, but the straps weren't strong enough so I'd get bouncy. I also have a very short body (I'm only 5'3" anyway, but I am all leg!) so whenever I sat down the underwire would move down my rib cage and hit my trouser waist band. Anyway, I was fitted properly on Monday, told I needed a 28 F-FF, bought two bras which seemed to fit well and off I went. However, after 3 days of wearing them, my ribs under one boob in particular are really bruised. I've followed everything on this website, the cup size seems right (although a little gappy when I sit down but guess that's normal), the band is right, I can get 2 fingers under it when it's on, it stretches to about an inch bigger than my rib size (which is 27 and a bit inches). Why are they so uncomfortable?! Is it just my ribs getting used to something new? I'm away for a week from Saturday and I really want to get sorted before I go! Any suggestions would be great. I don't have any padding on me or the bras I have (Freya) across the ribs under my boobs, is this why? Help! Becki x

    1. I realise that this is about a year later...but I've had the same issue! I wore a 28 G Marks & Spencer bra (from eBay) for a few months until I bought a new one. The M & S bra has 2 hooks and was a plunge/push-up, and every day I would have really painful bruising/almost scarred skin right at the very bottom of the wires. I bought a new bra (also from eBay), a strapless Tiffany Masquerade also in a 28 G that has a wider 3-hook band and the gore is much higher. I never have any bruising anymore, nor pain! So I don't have a solution for the original problem (I wish!! :( ) but I found an alternative in a wider, more supportive strap. Hope this helps!

  35. Sorry I have a question!

Are the bra sizes sold in Figleaves consistent?

I measured myself to be 26DD (26 underbust and 31 overbust) and am planning to purchase a 28D from Figleaves. But looking at the comments, it seems like the bra sizes do not follow thinandcurvy's measuring guide (e.g. panache tango extremely tight band, freya band and cup size running large, etc).

I understand the right way to do this is to buy the bra first and see if it fits, and if it doesn't I should return it. But considering that I'm living in Singapore (Southeast Asia, about 8 hours flight from Australia), the cost of shipping to return the wrong sized bras AND have the correct sized bra shipped to me would put a huge hole in my pocket! Please advice me on what I should do!

I ordered these bras from figleaves and was surprised that I got these. I'm too worried now that if I order bras from a site in the uk that it would have the same outcome. I need to know that these are really reliable websites because I don't want to be excited over some bras and find out that they don't fit me and have to be returned... Are the bras from the sites that you recommended supportive yet everyday bras that I can wear? I'm sorry if it offends you whatsoever I just want to make sure since I don't live in the uk.. TwT

It has a store in British Columbia but also does online as well. I've found them very helpful. When I was in my early teens and, to my horror, bras at department stores didn't fit (band too big, cups too small) my mom took me there and I was fitted comfortably into a 30G by a friendly saleslady. The other store I haven't tried yet, but it has a pretty accurate bra size calculator that actually got my size right. It's called Butterfly Collection (www.butterflycollection.ca/) and is purely online but I hear they do both telephone and Skype fittings.

  48. Thank you SOOOO much for your posts, Brittany!! I wish I had found this website sooner. I have been wearing the (VERY) incorrect bra size my whole life! I was so frustrated with my breasts, because I thought there was no bra known to man that could contain them... Little did I know.

I followed the sizing steps as you indicate, and I went from a 36C or D (depending) to a 34FF!!! Holy!! I'm on my way to a local bra boutique to try some on and ascertain which size is really my best fit, but there's no question on the band: the 36 was simply too big. That's why it felt like no bra could contain me, because they were too big around my thorax! They kept moving downwards! =p

They offer beautiful and (seemingly) comfortable designs, the prices are competitive with the other online stores recommended in this post, and they offer $3 flat rate shipping in the US for orders above $20.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you, Brittany!!

  49. Hi,
Thought I'd mention Affinitas Parfait as they have very pretty lingerie (especially the babydolls) to G cup. Available in the UK at AiryMary.com or visit the Affinitas website for local stockists. The Charlotte bra is adored by lingerie bloggers for its pinup girl style and vavavoom... not an everyday bra though..

  50. I have purchased my all the undergarments even nursing bra and lingerie from online at Spicy Lingerie. Does it a right place? According to me it is a right place for me. Because they will never disappoint me in the case of size, color, shape and in any services they provide like free shipping on any order. So I am satisfied and happy with that. I love that place.

  53. Hey! Recently I've just been getting really irritated at the fact that I don't have one bra that fit me perfectly. The band is always too big and my cups are too small. I have a variety of sizes in my closet right now, mostly from Victorias Secret and Pink. I wear the 32DDD mostly since thats their company's biggest cup size and smallest band. With this size, I see that there are gaps in the cup but when I hold the entire cup on my boobs, it doesn't really cover the whole thing? If that makes any sense... The band for all of my bra's are too big and i can literally fit both my hands inside the band while having it on the tightest hook.

I was just to fed up so I took the liberty to measure myself. I searched up online to see how to measure it properly and my band size (under my boobs) is about 28.5-29, and the fullest part of my chest is a 37. I live in the US but I think UK sizes are probably more accurate.. I think that I could either be a 30DDD or a 28 E or F. I'm so tired of spending so much money on bras that give me no support! helppp
